  1. When Paul Dean joined his brother Dizzy on
  2. the Cardinals in 1934, he was a shy,
  3. serious 21-year-old. There was nothing
  4. daffy about him. Yet, some sportswriters
  5. thought the name Daffy went well with Dizzy,
  6. so thatΓÇÖs what they called him. Dizzy and
  7. Daffy made a great team. Besides winning
  8. 49 games together in the regular season
  9. that year, they each won two games in the
  10. World Series.
  11.
  12. During the pennant drive in September,
  13. Dizzy pitched a three-hit shutout against the
  14. Dodgers in the first game of a double-
  15. header. Daffy pitched a no-hitter in the
  16. second game of the day. "I wish I had
  17. known he was going to pitch a no-hitter,"
  18. Dizzy said. "I would have pitched one, too."
