- When Paul Dean joined his brother Dizzy on
- the Cardinals in 1934, he was a shy,
- serious 21-year-old. There was nothing
- daffy about him. Yet, some sportswriters
- thought the name Daffy went well with Dizzy,
- so thatΓÇÖs what they called him. Dizzy and
- Daffy made a great team. Besides winning
- 49 games together in the regular season
- that year, they each won two games in the
- World Series.
-
- During the pennant drive in September,
- Dizzy pitched a three-hit shutout against the
- Dodgers in the first game of a double-
- header. Daffy pitched a no-hitter in the
- second game of the day. "I wish I had
- known he was going to pitch a no-hitter,"
- Dizzy said. "I would have pitched one, too."
